Wargaming depression and The Old Guard

So it happened.

Wargaming went a bit weird for me. A combination of two young children, difficulties at work and falling out with various people meant that gaming went a bit strange. It had never left but I've sold most of my stuff including my ships, SAGA armies and the French Indian Wars stuff. Gone also are my books;  the Osprey books that took me 20 years to collect.

It's a funny feeling when a big part of your life disappears or changes and I think I had gamers depression. For instance, my WW2 collection went from 20mm, 10mm to 28mm to 15mm back to 28mm then 15mm and now 20mm.

But here's the trick. The selling was the bug. I enjoyed making a bit of cash, albeit at a loss. But I would buy other stuff and it would sit there and do nothing.

Recently my mood changed and I've found something I enjoy. My greatest love for wargaming has been the Napoleonic wars but I've never found rules I've liked.

Then a friend started his own set. I played a few games and liked it and started my first army since the cull of 2014.

I'm doing 28mm French Imperial guard and loving it. What do you think?

Jomsviking

Lastly I have finished two units of hearth guard for my jomsviking. These are the lovely gripping beast figures!

15mm Thracians

Continuing the update, I've been rebasing my FOG Seleucid army for impetus. Painting is not overall great but will do.

15mm British Light Battalion

Having just had my second baby (well my wife has!), I've been blessed with a quiet little girl. As a result I've been able to bust out some figures.

First up is the 1st battalion of the light infantry for the AWI. This was made of combining the light companies of the line battalions and sticking them in there own unit. I'll have two such battalions by the end of this project.

The figures are the excellent peter pig range.

Updates

I haven't updated in a while and probably won't for a bit as my lovely wife is about to give birth, but here are a few things that I've been working on. Firstly we've got some world war 2 bits. The Germans are a mix of early war miniatures and fantisan, the bt7 is from Pegasus.

Next is a my jomsviking jarl. I've neglected saga lately so it's been fun to get back to it. He's not finished yet but there is no a huge amount to do!

British Grenadiers for the French Indian War. 40th Foot

Hi all, just a quick update for my FIW project. I managed to get these figures done in a week, 12 in all. The grenadiers were quite daunting  but I enjoyed painted them. I've gone for the 40th foot as this became the Somerset regiment, which is where I live. Figures are from Redoubt.

Mysterious Figures

I recently found these but I don't know what they are or who made them?

15mm French Napoleonic

My other passion is the Napoleonic wars. I'm looking at building up a force for Salamanca, using the General de Brigade rules. This is my first battalion, a generic French one.

15mm AWI British Army

Continuing my British Grenadier work, I managed to paint up my Guards battalions, as well as the lights, a commander and some light dragoons from the 16th. All figures are Peter Pig.

Battlegroup Kursk and Normandy

I've really been enjoying both BG Kursk and Normandy and now have a sizable German, British and Russain force. I'm currently updating my Hungarians as I've just got hold of  a copy of Barbarossa.

All the British stuff is from Grubby's tanks.

The Panzer III's are fun in Kursk, well not fun for the crews. They tend to blow up quickly.

French Indian War

Further updates to my M&T project include some Canadian militia and Scottish Highlanders. Love this game, though I tend to lose if I play the French.

The Scotts are from North Star and the Canadians are from Galloping Major.

The tarten was a real pain but I do fancy some Scotts Grenadiers, so might just have to brave it in the future.

Italian Navy reinforcments

I've missed painting ships, so I quite happily blitzed these chaps out for my Italian fleet. Mixture of Davco and Navwar. Just two more tins of Quality Streets, filled with unpainted lead, and I'll be done.
